Town of Wellesley is located in the Norfolk County of Massachusetts. In accordance with the 2000 census, the population of Wellesley rested at around 26,613. This city has been known for being the home of Wellesley College, a private women’s liberal arts college that was founded by Henry Fowle Durant and his wife Pauline Fowle Durant.
Initially part of Dedham, Massachusetts, Wellesley was later a part of Needham, Massachusetts and was called West Needham. It was then officially incorporated on April 6, 1881, but to this day the city is separated into several neighborhoods. The great Charles River runs along the northeastern and southwestern border of the town.
Wellesley houses US District Court Judge Arthur Garrity, who structured the integration of the Boston public schools in 1974.
